History and Establishment
- Shafaq Sham was founded upon an institutional vision guided by a clear humanitarian mission: transforming pain into opportunity, and the darkness of oppression into the dawn of a new era of dignity and progress. This vision has been led since its inception by Engineer Aboud Al-Hussein, whose guiding slogan—“The Radiance of a New Dawn”—embodied our firm belief that injustice will fade and that Syrian society will reclaim its freedom and dignity.
- The name itself carries a dual meaning: “Shafaq” as a metaphor for the end of night and the break of dawn, and “Sham” as an affirmation of commitment to Syria in all its land and people. Institutionally, operations began through four specialized entities—Iqra Educational (with roots dating back to 2002), Ofuq Economic, Shifa Medical, and Athar Humanitarian—which were later integrated and developed into a licensed, unified system operating in accordance with best international standards. Today, this system functions across nine strategic sectors, enabling integrated responses ranging from emergency relief to recovery and long-term development programs.
- The philosophy of the logo—its color gradient symbolizing a transition from darkness to light, and its form derived from the Arabic letter "Sheen," combining Shafaq and Sham—reinforces the visual identity that accompanies all our field and development work. This institutional journey, built upon clear governance and full compliance with standards, reflects our enduring commitment to restoring hope and building a dignified future for the people of Syria and their host communities.
